HEALTH & SAFETY ON THE COURSE

FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU READ AND UNDERSTAND THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION

All accidents or incidents on the grounds of Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club should be reported to an official as soon as possible.

Suspension of Play Due to a Dangerous Situation

When play is suspended by the Committee for a dangerous situation e.g. Lightning players between holes shall not resume play until the Committee orders a resumption. Players in the process of playing a hole must discontinue play immediately and not resume play until the Committee orders a resumption.

If a player fails to discontinue play he will be disqualified (Rule 5.7).

Signals used area:       Discontinue play; three blasts of the siren, repeated.

Discontinue play immediately; one prolonged blast of the siren

Resume play: two short blasts of the siren, repeated.

Lightning Policy

The thunder sound of lightning travels at a mile every 5 seconds (a kilometre every 3 seconds). If there is less than 30 seconds between the flash and the bang you are in immediate danger.

The Club has a Skyscan lightning detection system unit and a warning siren. This in no way affects the competitors right to stop play if they think lightning threatens, before the Committee signals suspension of play (Rule 5.7).

The only safe shelters available on the course are the Clubhouse and in the green keepers complex to the right of the 12th hole. If sudden close-in lightning does not permit evacuation to a safer place spread out from your group away from all metal (including clubs, umbrella etc) or tall objects and open areas, then kneel down (preferably in a bunker), tuck your head down and cover your ears. Head for the safest possible place as soon as the immediate threat passes.
