Host Facility: Black Bear Golf Club
Dates: Monday, June 21 - Friday, June 25, 2021
Eligibility: Open to all active CGA Members age 55 and older on or before June 21, 2021.
Registration Deadline: Friday, May 28th at 11:59 p.m. MT
Entry Fee: $250.00 for exempt players into the championship. Qualifying fees will be $95.00 per player with an additional $155.00 for successful qualifiers.
Field Size: Maximum of 64 players based on exemptions and successful qualifiers.
Qualifying: Players that are not on the EXEMPT LIST must go through a qualifying round at a course listed above.
Format: The CGA Senior Match Play Championship will be played using the PGA TOUR style match play Pod Play system at gross scoring. This means that any player who qualifies for the championship will be guaranteed at least three (3) matches in the championship at Black Bear Golf Club. After each player is ranked (see below), all players will be distributed into their pod with three (3) other players. This will yield 16 pods of four (4) players. Each player will play all three other players in their pod at least once (see schedule below). The winner of each pod will advance to the Round of 16 and a single elimination knockout round will be played for the duration of the championship
If there is a tie for the pod winner or knockout stage, a sudden death playoff will determine the winner.
Scoring: There will be no playoffs in pod play. Scoring during pod play will be as follows:
Match Won – 1 point | Match Tied – ½ point | Match Lost – 0 Points. If there is a tie following Pod Play, a sudden death playoff between the tied players will determine a winner of the pod.
Mobile Scoring: Players may use their Golf Genius app to score their match as they play. Please CLICK HERE for instructions. Players will also report the final match status to a CGA staff member posting match results near the 18th putting green.
Player Seeding: All 64 players will be ranked 1 – 64. The defending champion will be ranked #1. Exempt players will be ranked next based on their 2020 CGA Senior Player of the Year points standings. The rest of the field of 64 will be made from qualifying players that came from an off-site qualifier. Qualifying players will be ranked in order of their qualifying score at their given site. Pod seeding is available under the player information tab.
Pod Structure: The pods will follow the PGA TOUR style of randomized drawing. Once players have been seeded 1 - 64, players will be drawn at random so that each pod will consist of a player ranked 1 - 16 (A Player), 17 - 32 (B Player), 33 - 48 (C Player) and 49 - 64 (D Player). Schedule:
Monday (6/21): Day 1 of Pod Play from 7:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Tuesday (6/22): Day 2 of Pod Play from 7:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Wednesday Morning (6/23): Day 3 of Pod Play from 7:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Wednesday Afternoon (6/23): Round of 16 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Thursday Morning (6/24): Quarterfinals from 7:00 a.m. - 7:30 a.m.
Thursday Afternoon (6/24): Semifinals from 12:30 p.m. - 12:40 p.m.
Friday (6/25): Championship match begins at 7:00 a.m (18 hole match).
Groupings: Players will play in groups of four (4). There will be two matches taking place at each tee time. All players will be grouped by their pod.
Carts: Carts are included for all players in their entry fee for all rounds of the championship. During Pod Play, players will share a cart with another player. During knockout stages, all players will have their own cart.
All players are of course welcome to walk or bring a caddie or push cart.
Driving Range: The driving range will be made available each morning at 6:00 a.m. at no additional charge to the player.
Practice Round Information: Available at the Loyalty Rate. Please let the pro shop know that you are a competitor in the Senior Match Play for this rate.
