Player Information Sheet & Local Rules

 

 

 

History of the Mother/Son Modified Scotch Tournament:

The tournament originated at Wellesley Country Club. Last year’s winners were 1st Division – Mary & Daniel Gale and  2nd Division – Sue & James Curtin.

 

Rules of Golf: The USGA Rules of Golf, Local Rules and Terms of Competitions for Mass Golf Tournaments govern all play.

 

Mass Golf Policies & Procedures: Please refer to Policies & Procedures in Response to Covid 19, Policies & Procedures and Pace of Play Policy. Mask requirement still in effect at range and practice green.

 

Format: Modified Scotch. Selected drive then alternate shot.  Both partners drive from their respective tees. Then they select which drive they want to use of the two and play alternate shot into the hole with that ball. Mothers playing with multiple sons will only hit one tee shot.

 

Divisions: Division 1: Sons 19 years and older. Division 2: Sons 13 to 18 years old. Division 3: Sons 12 years and younger (9 Holes Only)

 

Handicaps:  50% combined handicap. Indexes computed on June 23rd, 2020.

 

Scorecards: Paper scorecards will be provided to all participants for the player’s own notes. All paper scorecards are considered UNOFFICIAL. Do NOT exchange scorecards at any time. Online/Mobile Scoring via USGA Tournament Management. Prior to the Tournament, players should download the USGA Tournament Management App. Click HERE for mobile scoring instructions. Click HERE to download the App. Enter Gross scores only. Net will be calculated by the App. After all gross scores are entered for a Hole, click “Save Scores”. Scores should not be posted for handicap purposes as the round has not been played in an authorized format.

 

Tees: Mothers and Division 3 Sons will play from the Red Mass Golf Tees at approximately 5,187 yards.  Division 2 Sons will play from the Course White Tees at approximately 5,896 yards. Sons in Division 1 will play from the Blue Mass Golf tee markers at approximately 6,250 yards.

 

Distance-Measuring Devices: Permitted as specified in Mass Golf Championship Policies & Procedures.

 

Practice Areas: Driving Range will be accessible 25 minutes before your tee time for 12 minutes. Putting green will then be accessible for 5 minutes. Then golfers will be directed to the on-deck circle. The short game chipping area will be CLOSED.

 

Yardage Markers: Stakes in the rough at 200, 150 and 100 yards from the center of the green.

 

Hole Locations: Hole location sheet is in the player portal HERE. Flags are color-coded; red flags are front, white are middle and yellow are back.

 

Any hole by hole penalty information (if any) will be sent out the night before the tournament.

 

Integral Parts of the Golf Course: All stone walls and rock outcroppings are integral parts of the golf course. Relief without penalty is NOT permitted.

 

No play zones: Hole #3 left side of fairway and Hole #7 behind green (clubhouse). Areas are marked. Free relief MUST be taken in marked drop zone.

 

Flagsticks: For the safety and well-being of all, the flagstick MUST NOT be touched and should always remain in the hole. A foam pool noodle has been placed in the cup to prevent players from touching the flagstick. A ball deflected out of the hole will not be considered holed and must be played as it lies.

 

Bunker Relief: All bunker rakes will be removed from the golf course. A ball that comes to rest in the bunker may be marked, lifted, cleaned and dropped one club length no closer to the hole and come to rest within the relief area within the bunker. The area in which a player intends to drop may not be improved in any way. Players are expected to smooth all footprints (unkept areas) with their foot, club or other device to the best of their ability after they hit their shot.

 

Bathrooms: Located at the Clubhouse on the first floor. Walk in the doors and bathrooms are on the left. Located after the 9th Green at the Snack Bar/Halfway House and after 15th Green.

Drinking Water: Players must provide their own water as water coolers will not be available.

 

Snack Bar/Halfway House: Accessible after the 9th Green by the Pool. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.

 

Lunch: Deli boxed lunch after play. Turkey, ham and tuna options. Fruit, chocolate chip cookie and bottled water included. Dispensers of Iced Tea and Lemonade. Adult beverages available for purchase by request to server. Boxed lunches will be available upon completion of the round near the scoring area on the patio.

 

Scoring: Players to report to the scoring table at the clubhouse patio upon completion of their round.

 

Awards: Overall and Division Trophies engraved with names of gross winners.  Ties honored for first place gross only. All other ties will be decided by matching cards in accordance with USGA recommended method. Prize certificates to be used at host club.
