Play is governed by the Rules of Golf, effective January 2019, the Terms of the Competition, the Local Rules for this Championship setting a Pace of Play Policy (available at the starting tees), and where and where applicable the following Local Rules which apply to this golf course. Questions shall be settled by the Championship Committee, whose decision shall be final.

SUPPLEMENTARY RULES OF PLAY

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT - Stroke Play – 54 Holes

TEEING AREAS DEFINED – For the purpose of applying Rule 5.3a, Starting a Round (including the penalty statement and exception), the teeing area for Hole #1 is defined by the gallery rope (where applicable) and blue dots and/or blue stakes and lines.

  • Men’s Championship Flight:           Back Tee markers
  • Men’s Mayacama Flight:               Middle Tee markers
  • Women’s Championship and Mayacama Flight:         Forward Tee Markers

WHEN TO START ROUND (Rule 5.3a)

  • The player must start at (and not before) his starting time, which means that the player must be ready to play at the starting time and starting point set by the Committee.
  • A starting time set by the Committee is treated as an exact time (for example 9am means 9:00:00 am and not any time until 9:01 am).
  • PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE 5.3a - In stroke play, if the player arrives at his starting point, ready to play, within five minutes after his starting time, the penalty for failure to start on time is two strokes at the first hole. Otherwise, the penalty for breach of this Rule is disqualification

PLAYING TWO BALLS WHEN UNCERTAIN WHAT TO DO – A player who is uncertain about the right procedure while playing a hole may complete the hole with two balls without penalty. Please review the rule for specific requirements when playing a second ball. The player must hole out with both balls and report the facts of the situation to the Committee before returning the scorecard, even if the player scores the same with both balls. The player is disqualified if he or she fails to do so.

USE OF DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES – A player or his/her caddie may obtain distance information by use of a distance-measuring device. A player may not use a device to measure elevation changes, or interpreting distance or directional information (such as using a device to get a recommended line of play or club selection based on the location of the player’s ball). Penalty for breach of Rule 4.3:

  • Penalty for first breach from single act or related acts: Two Strokes
  • Penalty for second breach unrelated to first breach: Disqualification.

PACE OF PLAY – A player will be subject to penalty if he/she unduly delays play. The pace of play guidelines which are in effect are posted at the starting tees. The expected pace of play for a 3-Ball playing an 18-hole round of Stroke Play is 4 hours and 25 minutes.

SCORECARDS – Scorecards must be turned in to the scoring area located adjacent to the 18th green immediately upon completion of play. Scorecards must be certified (signed by the player and his/her marker) prior to being returned to the Committee.

For the purpose of applying Rule 3.3b(2), a player’s scorecard is treated as returned when the player has first left the scoring area with both feet. The scoring area is defined with ropes, blue stakes, and/or blue dots/lines.

PLAYOFF PROCEDURE – In the event of a tie for first place in the Championship Flights, a hole-by-hole play-off will begin immediately following play on hole #1 and then if necessary, continue to holes #2 – 9. This rotation will repeat until the Champion is determined. Players in the Mayacama Flights will follow the same rotation and receive the difference in handicap strokes between the tied player(s), with the lowest player playing off at scratch.

RESOLVING RULES ISSUES

  1. Players must not unreasonably delay play when seeking help with the Rules. If the Committee is not readily available to help with a Rules issue, the players must decide what to do and play on and bring the issue to the Committee as soon as possible. The Committee’s ruling is final.
  2. All players are expected to play in the Spirit of the Game by acting with integrity, showing consideration to others, and taking good care of the course. There is no penalty under the Rule for failing to act in this way, except that the Committee may disqualify a player for acting contrary to the Spirit of the Game if it finds that the player has committed serious misconduct.

COVID-19

LOCAL RULES / CONDITIONS OF PLAY

BUNKERS – Bunkers are part of the challenge of playing the course. All players are asked to be courteous to those playing behind them by smoothing footprints and other damage that them may encounter or create in a bunker. The Committee provide every golf car in the field with a rake, and all caddies have been requested to rake bunkers for all players in their group.

In the event that a player finds him/herself in an unraked area in a bunker, the player has the option of playing the ball as it lies or take an declare the ball unplayable and with a penalty of one stroke, use one of the relief options under Rule 19.3. Ball must be dropped in and played from the bunker in a relief area not nearer the hole than the original spot of the ball, or for an additional penalty stroke (total of two), take back on the line relief outside the bunker.

FLAGSTICK

The Committee has established a “Code of Conduct” for this Championship that states:

“Players are prohibited from touching or removing the flagstick at any time during their round”

The Committee acknowledges that removal of the flagstick is an instinctual act for many players, and in that circumstance, the removal of a flagstick is treated as “accidental”. However, in the case where a player “deliberately” removes the flagstick to affect the outcome of a hole, that player will be subject to penalty for a violation of this “Code of Conduct” as follows:

Penalty for “deliberate” removal of flagstick:

  • First Breach – Warning
  • Second Breach – One Stroke Penalty
  • Third and Subsequent Breaches – General Penalty (two strokes)

BALL HOLED DEFINITION - ADDENDUM

For this Championship, the definition of “holed” has been modified as follows:

“A ball is “holed” when it is at rest within the circumference of the hole and any part of it is below the surface of the putting green.”

“For the special case of a ball resting against the flagstick in the hole, the ball is treated as holed if any part of the ball below the surface of the putting green.”
