117th WPGA Open Championship
August 4-5, 2020
Shannopin Country Club, Ben Avon Heights, PA
Format: 36-holes of stroke play. Following the completition of Round 1, players will be repaired for Round 2 based on Round 1 results. Play is governed by the USGA Rules of Golf. In the event of a tie for the Championship, a hole-by-hole playoff will take place on holes to be determined by the Committee as soon as practicable.
Championship Schedule:
Tuesday, August 4 – Round One, starting times begin at 8:00 AM (18-Holes of Stroke Play)
Wednesday, August 5 – Round Two, starting times begin at 8:00 AM (18-Holes of Stroke Play, Round 2 pairings will be based on Round 1 results.)
Tee Markers: Play is from the BLUE WPGA tee markers. The starting tee for both rounds will be Hole #1. The course will play roughly 6,450 yards depending on conditions and yardages will vary from round to round.
Practice: Practice rounds are available at the discretion of the pro shop. The PGA Golf Professional is Eric Teasdale. The pro shop number is 412-761-6377. The The practice range will open one hour prior to the first tee time each morning of the competition.
Transportation/Caddies: Carts and push carts are permitted for the championship. Caddies are not permitted for the Championship. Shannopin Country Club does not have push carts available for rent. Single rider carts will be accomodated. Walking is encouraged for the Championship.
Lodging: Lodging of various price ranges can be found in the Pittsburgh and Neville Island areas. You may also create an account with Affinity Travel Benefits here and find lodging to close to the tournament site on the Association Tournaments tab.
Food & Beverage: Whole fruits, coffee, and juice will be available for players prior to each round. Boxed Lunch will be provided for players only each day. Bottled water will not be available on-course during all rounds. Players are encouraged to bring their own water for each round. All other food & beverage charges are the responsibility of the player.
Pace of Play: The maximum allowable time will be four hours and fifteen (4:15). A four-point checkpoint system will be in place for the competition. Please review the WPGA Pace of Play Policy.
Scoring: Scoring for the Championship will be done using the USGA Tournament Manegment Mobile APP. All players should download the APP in advance on the Championship. Please see Mobile APP Scoring Instructions in the WPGA COVID-19 Player Information Packet.
Evacuation Plan: In the event of a suspension of play for a dangerous situation, players should immediately return their carts to the cart staging areas and return to their vehicles. Updates on suspension and resumption of play will be texted to competitors via USGA TM.
Note: A suspension for a dangerous situation will be signaled by one prolonged air horn note. All other types of suspension will be signaled by three consecutive air horn notes, repeated. Resumption of play will be signaled by two short air horn notes, repeated.
Footwear: METAL CLEATS ARE PROHIBITED. THE PENALTY IS DISQUALIFICATION.
