2021 Berkeley College Foundation Golf Outing—June 17th
Crystal Springs Resort—Crystal Springs Golf Course
Rules Sheet
Format: 18 hole, Four Person Scramble Tournament
Tees: Men will play off the BLUE Tees and Women will play off the RED Tees
Rules: USGA golf rules will govern play. All rules interpretations will be resolved by the Tournament Committee and Crystal Springs Staff. Players should conform to all USGA and local course rules and observe normal golf etiquette.
1.) All team members will tee off on each hole. Once all 4 tee shots are played, the team will decide which tee shot they like best and mark that ball.
2.) The other 3 team members will pick up their tee shots and place them within one club length, no closer to the hole, of the marked ball. Each team member will then hit a shot from within one club length, no closer to the hole, of the marked location.
3.) This procedure will be followed on every shot for the remainder of the hole, including putts, until the hole is completed. One score will be recorded for the team.
4.) Putts need to be marked and placed within 3 inches of the marked spot, no closer to the hole. The first ball to go in the hole is counted for the team score.
5.) If the ball the team chooses to play is in a hazard (water, sand or any other hazard), the rough, or the fringe/collar, the team may not drop the ball outside of the hazard, rough, or fringe/collar even if relief is within one club length.
6.) Each player’s tee shot must be used at least two times during the 18-hole competition.
7.) Mulligans may be purchased prior to the start of the round. A total of 2 Mulligans may be purchased and played per player. A player may use his or her Mulligan on any shot, including putts. The additional shot will be played once all players have played from a given location.
8.) Threesomes are permitted to rotate a fourth shot among the players from each ball location. In other words, one player will hit twice from each ball location, on a rotating basis. For example—
Hole #1: Tee Shots—Player A, Player B, Player C, Player A
Second Shots—Player A, Player B, Player C, Player B
Third Shots—Player A, Player B, Player C, Player C
Fourth Shot—Player A, Player B, Player C, Player A
Hole #2: Tee Shots—Player A, Player B, Player C, Player B
Second Shots—Player A, Player B, Player C, Player C
Third Shots—Player A, Player B, Player C, Player A
Fourth Shot—Player A, Player B, Player C, Player B
This rotation will continue in this manner throughout the round.
9.) This competition will have only one division and will not employ a handicap scoring system. Each team will record one score for each hole. Scorecards will be turned into the Tournament Committee and Crystal Springs Staff following completion of the round. The team with the lowest score will be the tournament champion. Prizes will be awarded for the first, second and third place teams.
10.) In the event of a tie for first, second, and/or third place, the Tournament Committee and Crystal Springs Staff will compare the score card of the teams that have tied starting with the hole with the highest handicap moving to the hole with the second-highest handicap, and so on, continuing until one team has the lowest score on a hole. This team will win the tie breaker, and will be deemed the winner. If two teams tie for first place, the loser of the tie breaker will be deemed to have finished in second place.
Individual Competitions
Closest to the Pin: Tee shots must finish on the green to be eligible. If your tee shot lands on the green, measure the distance to the hole, and then write your name and the distance to the hole on the marker card. Place the marker card on the spot where your ball came to rest. Once the marker has been placed in the ground, it should stay there until another player hits a closer shot. That player should then repeat the procedure and place the marker on the new location. No practice shots, mulligans, or substituted shots for other contestants are permitted. Contestants may not participate in the contest more than once at each of the defined holes.
Longest Drive: Tee shots must finish on the fairway to be eligible. If your drive is the longest and is on the fairway, write your name on the marker card and place the marker in the ground on the spot where your ball came to rest. Once the marker has been placed in the ground, it should remain there until another player hits a longer drive that ends in the fairway. That player should then repeat the procedure of writing his/her name on the card below the other names and place the marker at the spot. No practice shots, mulligans, or substituted shots for other contestants are permitted. Contestants may not participate in the contest more than once at each of the defined holes.
Hole-In-One: Each player will be given one shot to achieve a hole in one. No practice shots, mulligans, or substituted shots for other contestants are permitted. Contestants may not participate in the contest more than once at each of the defined holes.
Awards: The Tournament Committee and Crystal Springs Staff will present team awards to the top three teams. Individual awards will be given to the player who wins the Closest to the Pin Competition and the Longest Drive Competition. The awards presentation will take place at the dinner following the tournament.
Winners: All golfers will be required to utilize the electronic scoring application Golf Genius to be eligible for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes. Scores wil need to be logged at each hole and the final score will need to be submitted electronically at the conclusion of your round.
