The Kansas City Amateur Championship is a premier stroke-play event in the Greater Kansas City area. The championship originated in 1991 as a 54-hole medal play competition, taking a brief break from 1996 – 2003. A predecessor to the Kansas City Amateur Championship was the Kansas City Medal Play competition, held in the 1950s and 1960s as a 72-hole stroke play competition played over several different courses.
