COVID-19 CHAMPIONSHIP POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

All contestants should be familiar with the policies and procedures in place.

 

COVID-19 CHAMPIONSHIP PARTICIPANT WAIVER

All contestants MUST sign the participant waiver prior to arriving at the championship. The waiver will be emailed to all contestants to sign digitally using DocuSign.

 

FORMAT

54-hole stroke play. The field will be cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes.

 

FIELD LIMIT/FILL METHOD

120 players. Exempt players and qualifiers from the four regional qualifying sites.

 

ENTRY DEADLINE

Monday, July 20, 2020

 

REFUND POLICY

Refunds due to COVID-19 will be granted up until a player begins the championship. Players requesting a refund must notify WA Golf in time to get a replacement from the waiting list.

 

COURSE YARDAGE

Course Yardage: 7134 yards, par-72. Yardages will be changed slightly between rounds. Hole-by-hole yardages are available on the championship portal HERE.

 

LODGING

To book a hotel reservation, please use the following link - HOTEL RESERVATIONS. You will be prompted to login or create an account using your GHIN #, which will allow you access to the site where you can search hotels, by proximity to the course at a large discount. 

 

ONSITE REGISTRATION

All contestants must register in person with WA Golf at Chamber Bay prior to starting round one play. Registration will be located outside the Turn Stand under the WA Golf tent near the #1 tee during the following times:

MONDAY, AUGUST 10:          11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 11:           7:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.   

 

STARTING TIMES/PAIRINGS

Round 1 and Round 2 pairings will be released one week prior on Tuesday, August 4. WA Golf will re-pair contestants for Round 3 according to score with the leaders teeing off last. Preferred starting time requests will not be accepted. Starting times will be posted on the WA Golf website (WAgolf.org), on the championship portal and will be emailed and text messaged to each player.

 

SCHEDULE

54-hole stroke play (gross only). In the event of a tie for the championship, a hole-by-hole playoff will be held immediately following play to determine the winner.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 11             Starting times off the #1 tee from 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12         Starting times off the #1 tee from 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 13                        Starting times off the #1 tee from 7:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

 

PRACTICE ROUND

Contestants may play one complimentary practice round prior to the championship. Practice round reservations can be made beginning on Monday, August 3 at 9:00 a.m. Blocks of practice round times will be reserved throughout the day on Monday, August 10. Players must call the golf shop directly at (253) 552-4873 to book a practice round time. When making reservations, contestants must identify themselves as a WA Golf Men’s Amateur Championship participant.

 

FOOD AND BEVERAGE SERVICE (No Host)

The Turn Stand (near the #1 tee) will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for grab and go breakfast sandwiches, lunch items, snacks and beverages. Full menu service is available in the Chambers Bay Grill (top of hill) from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

 

BOTTLED WATER

Due to COVID-19, bottled water may be available at limited locations on the golf course for players only (a notification will be sent out prior to the championship with a hydration plan). Snacks and fruit will not be provided. Players are encouraged to bring their own bottled water.

 

CONTESTANT’S LUNCH

Participants will receive a $25 food voucher at Player Registration to be used in the Turn Stand or the Grill.

 

ACCEPTED PAYMENT OPTIONS

All major credit cards and debit cards are acceptable forms of payment in the golf shop, Turn Stand and Chambers Bay Grill. Cash is not accepted due to COVID-19.

 

LOCKER ROOM

A locker room is not available.

 

HOURS OF OPERATION

The golf shop will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The driving range will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

 

WARM-UP RANGE BALLS

Warm-up range balls will be provided to contestants on the Championship South Driving Range before each round.

 

PULL CARTS

Contestants who use pull carts must not take them close to putting greens or across tees.  Contestants must take pull carts around the outside edge of all greenside bunkers and around all tees. 

 

CADDIES

Caddies are permitted. Host club caddies are available and should be scheduled in advance by calling (253) 522-4866. Caddie fees are $100 + gratuity. Caddie bibs must be returned following each round with the player’s scorecard.

 

AUTOMOTIVE CARTS

The Local Rule prohibiting the use of motorized transportation as prescribed in Section 8 of the Committee Procedures is in effect.

 

SPECTATOR CARTS

To provide an equal championship platform for all competitors, the use of carts by spectators is not permitted by WA Golf. 

 

PULL CARTS

Pull carts will be available to use on a first come first serve basis in the golf shop. Carts are complimentary. Players may also bring a personal pull cart.

 

CADDIES

Host club caddies are available and should be scheduled in advance by calling (253) 522-4866. Caddie fees are $100 + gratuity.

 

PRIZES

All prizes will be awarded according to 54-hole scores. In addition to the below awards, a $5,000 merchandise payout will be distributed to top finishing players. All merchandise credit is good in the Chambers Bay golf shop and should be used within one year.

Runner-up: Crystal trophy

Top-10: Crystal medallion

 

AWARDS CEREMONY

WA Golf will host a brief awards ceremony immediately upon completion of play following COVID-19 Championship Policies.

 

EXEMPTIONS

The 2020 Washington Men's Amateur Champion will receive an exemption into the 2021 PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship, the 2021 Washington Champion of Champions and a lifetime exemption into the Washington Men’s Amateur Championship. The champion will also receive an invitation to be a member of the 2020 Hudson Cup Team at Meadow Springs Country Club on October 21-23, 2020, and the 2021 Pacific Coast Amateur Championship.

 

PERFORMANCE POINTS LIST

Points for the WSGA Men's Amateur are allocated as follows: Champion, 125 points; Runner-up, 100 points; Top 5 players, 75 points each; Top 10 players, 50 points each; Top 15 players, 25 points each; Top 20 players, 15 points each; Top 30 players, 5 points each.  


WORLD AMATEUR GOLF RANKINGS

The Washington Men’s Amateur Championship receives World Amateur Golf Ranking points.

 

GHIN SCORE POSTING

WA Golf will post competition scores for all players to the USGA GHIN System. 

 

DRESS CODE

Players and caddies must be neat in appearance with respect to personal grooming and clothing while on host club property. The WA Golf Dress Code Policy is available at the following link: wagolf.org/policies and will be provided to all players, along with any additional measures required by the host club, in the Player Memorandum.

 

CODE OF CONDUCT

WA Golf expects all contestants, caddies, gallery, and guests to exhibit proper conduct and behavior on the golf course and anywhere on club property during a WA Golf Championship. Unbecoming conduct or behavior may be grounds for immediate disqualification, at any time, from any WA Golf event. The following are some examples of unbecoming conduct or behavior:

  • Repeated use of loud, abusive, and/or profane language
  • Throwing and/or breaking equipment (club, ball, etc.) in anger or frustration
  • Damaging host club, WA Golf, and/or fellow contestant property

 

  • Public criticism or verbal abuse of host club, officials, volunteers or staff, and/or WA Golf volunteers, staff or fellow contestants
  • Potential endangerment of others
  • Intentionally violating stated club policy
  • Violation of WA Golf Dress Code and/or Footwear Policy
  • Other conduct deemed unbecoming

 

The Committee in charge of the competition shall be the sole judge of determining Conduct Code violations.
 

UNOFFICIAL WITHDRAWAL

After the entry deadline and during play of the championship, players must notify WA Golf and state her need to withdraw. Entrants who unofficially withdraw (by not notifying WA Golf or without having sufficient reason) will not be granted entry into any future WA Golf Championship for a minimum of two years.

 

PACE OF PLAY POLICY

Players are encouraged to be familiar with WA Golf’s Pace of Play Policy, which is in effect at all championships.

 

LOCAL RULES AND TERMS OF THE COMPETITION
Players are encouraged to be familiar with WA Golf’s 2020 Local Rules and Terms of the Competition, which will be in effect at all Championships.

 

PROHIBITED USE OF AUDIO EQUIPMENT
Rule 4.3 is modified in this way: During a round, a player is not allowed to use an electronic device to listen to music or other audio (such as podcasts or the like), including by using speakers, headphones or earbuds. Penalty for breach of Local Rule - see Rule 4.3.
