USGA Rules Shall Govern All Play.
Men – Green Tees
Women - Orange Tees
Distance Measuring Devices:
The use of GPS devices, rangefinders and other distance measuring devices are permitted with the exception of devices that provide yardage and slope or wind speed.
Indicating Line of Play (Rule 8-2):
A: Other than on Putting Green – Except on the putting green, a player may have the line of play indicated to him by anyone, but no one may be positioned by the player on or close to the line or an extension of the line beyond the hole while the stroke is being made. Any mark placed by the player or with his knowledge to indicate the line must be removed before the stroke is made.
B: On the Putting Green – When the player’s ball is on the putting green, the player, his partner or either of their caddies may, before but not during the stroke, point out a line for putting, but in so doing the putting green must not be touched. A mark must not be placed anywhere to indicate a line for putting.
Bunkers:
All prepared areas of sand with accompanying rakes are deemed to be bunkers. All other sand areas are “through the green.” If you are unsure as the status play it as a bunker.
Moveable Obstruction (Rule 24 -1):
Stones in bunkers are movable obstructions.
Water Hazards (Rule 26-1)
The lake(s) along the right side of #11 at Bandon Trails are considered Lateral Water Hazards. Players can use any of the options for relief as described in Rule 26-1.
Immovable Obstruction (Rule 24-2):
If a ball lies through the green and an immovable obstruction on or within two club-lengths of the putting green and within two club-lengths of the ball intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole, the player may take relief as follows:
- The ball must be lifted and dropped at the nearest point to where the ball lay that (a) is not nearer the hole, (b) avoids intervention and (c) is not in a hazard or on a putting green.
Lost Ball (27-1):
If a ball is lost or is out of bounds, the player must play a ball, under penalty of one stroke, as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played.
Provisional Ball (27-2):
If a ball may be lost outside a water hazard or may be out of bounds, to save time the player may play another ball provisionally in accordance with rule 27-1. The player must inform his marker or a fellow-competitor in stroke play that he intends to play a provisional ball, and he must play it before he or his partner goes forward to search for the original ball.
Doubt as to Procedure (3-3):
In stroke play, if a competitor is doubtful of his rights or the correct procedure during the play of a hole he may, without penalty, complete the hole with two balls.
After doubtful situation has arisen and before taking further action, the competitor must announce to his fellow-competitor that he intends to play two balls and which ball he wishes to count if the rules allow.
The competitor must report the facts of the situation to the Committee before returning his score card. If he fails to do so, he is disqualified.
Determining if ball lies on or touches the putting green:
In certain instances it may be difficult to determine if a ball in play lies on or touches the putting green and consequently can be marked and lifted under rules 16-2. If a member of the Committee is not readily available and there is any doubt as to whether a ball lies on or touches the putting green, the ball is deemed to NOT lie on or touch the putting green and the ball must be played as it lies. A player in doubt of procedure may also play a 2nd ball under Rule 3-3.
In the event of a tie:
For the Overall Bandon Dunes Cup winner we will have a 3-hole playoff. For individual flight winners we will use the recommended method by the USGA.
- Appendix I-10(c): A scorecard playoff will be conducted where we will look at the final nine hole score. If a tie still remains we will go to the final six holes, final three holes and final hole to determine a winner.
