The Memphis Golf Association was originally founded in 1941. The first President was George Treadwell of Memphis Country Club. The MGA has now grown to include 9 private golf clubs in Shelby County, Tennessee.
The MGA's mission is to promote the game of golf through a series of competitive championships and community involvement with a particular emphasis on junior development programs. The MGA currently stages four championship tournaments. These tournaments are designed to foster growth in all divisions of golf.
The MGA actively supports the First Tee of Memphis program by providing money, equipment and instruction to junior players. It also supports city and state junior programs by providing scholarships to underprivileged juniors to the Tennessee PGA Jr. Golf Academy.
The MGA is managed by a board of directors which includes no more than two individuals from each member club and a Tournament Director. Officers are selected each year by the directors. The MGA is a nonprofit organization and as such retains only the funds required to operate between tournaments.
Should you have any questions concerning the MGA or wish to offer suggestions concerning its operations, feel free to contact the MGA directors at your club. They are committed to making the competitve events as enjoyable as possible and welcome your feedback.
