The Tennessee Match Play Championship began in 1984 at Fall Creek Falls Golf Course. The Match Play Championship is open to amateurs who possess an active USGA/GHIN Handicap Index of 8.0 or less from a TGA member club or course.
The format for the Tennessee Match Play Championship is 36-hole stroke play qualifying. Following the 36-hole stroke play qualifying, the low 16 players will advance to match play. In the event of a tie for the final qualifying position(s), a hole-by-hole playoff will be conducted following the second round. Ties during the stroke play qualifying will be broken by the USGA method of tiebreaking (Last 9, last 6, last 3, etc.) to determine seeding. If necessary, the results of the playoff for the final bracket position(s) will detemine seeding.
