WSCGA Betty Reynolds Rules School Grant Criteria
Grant Purpose:
To support women in advancing their knowledge and expertise in golf rules by attending the USGA Rules School and becoming a certified USGA Rules Official for the WSCGA.
Eligibility Criteria:
1. Applicant must be female
2. Must have an Active South Carolina GHIN Handicap
3. Demonstrated interest in golf rules and officiating
4. Commitment to volunteer at WSCGA events:
- Minimum of working 3 tournament days as a volunteer before the grant.
- Additional 8 tournament days volunteering after attending the USGA Rules School.
5. Must complete the application with all required documents.
Grant Details:
1. One to Two Grants every Year
2. Coverage:
- Tuition for In-Person USGA Rules School.
- Travel expenses (up to $300).
- Accommodation (up to $600).
Application Process:
1. Application Form: Complete the online application form on the WSCGA website.
2. Supporting Materials:
- A personal statement (500 words) outlining the applicant’s interest in golf rules and how the grant will benefit their involvement in WSCGA.
- A resume or CV detailing golf experience and volunteer work.
- Two letters of recommendation from WSCGA members or other golf professionals.
3. Score 80% or higher on the given WSCGA rules test
Selection Process:
1. Review Committee: Five WSCGA members will review applications.
2. Evaluation Criteria:
- Commitment to golf and WSCGA events.
- Volunteer experience and dedication.
- Potential impact of the grant on the applicant’s involvement in golf officiating.
- 80% or higher score on the WSCGA Rules Test
Commitment Requirements:
1. Pre-Grant: Work a minimum of three (3) WSCGA Tournament Days.
2. Post-Grant: Work eight (8) WSCGA Tournament Days within two (2) years of attending USGA Rules School.
3. Must Score a minimum of 75 on the 100-question USGA Rules Test to be considered an Advanced WSCGA Rules Official. In the event of getting less than 75, the grant recipient will serve as a “Limited Rules Official” until a score of 75 or greater is scored. The grant will pay for one (1) additional test if needed.
Timeline:
1. Application Deadline: January 1st
2. Announcement of Recipients: January WSCGA State Rep meeting
3. Rules School Attendance: Fall or following Spring of the awarded year.
