General Requirements & Guidelines for the River Place Cup ( RP Cup )
-
- Eligible for the RP Cup
A member must be in good standing within the membership of River Place country club and within the Men’s Golf Associations (MGA). Any member who is not in good standing at the time of the RP Cup selection will be ineligible.
-
- Team Names/Theme
Team names/theme will be defined by the MGA Board of directors each year with the assistance of the captains/co-captains for each team
-
- Meeting regarding RP Cup Event
There must be a minimum to two MGA Board members present during the RP Cup draft.
-
- RP Cup Event
The RP Cup will have 54 MGA members and 2 River Place Golf Pro staff. This number can be changed by a MGA board majority vote. Changes should be made prior to the middle of the RP Cup season. This is avoid impacting members personal schedules while trying to make the RP Cup. Also, the player’s status is published toward the end of the season. The MGA treasure must vote in favor of a change due to the financial impact.
-
- Role of the RP Cup coordinator
- Align with the tournament director on which events earn points
- Keep an independent count of participation points and bonus points. Align with the River Place Golf staff and align with Golf Genius. This must be done after each tournament with the goal of approving the point total by Friday PM after each tournament.
- Due to the many formats and limitation of Golf Genius, an independent and alignment is necessary
- The RP Cup coordinator should monitor MGA member participation. In early January, the RP Cup coordinator should approve of the list for February MGA dues billing with the River Place accountant.
- Only MGA members are allowed to play in MGA events. It is possible that a River Place golf member may play in a MGA tournament since membership is not checked. Should this occur, the RP Cup coordinator should notify the member and the River Place accountant. The member may join by paying the dues or be requested not to sign up for MGA events.
- The RP Cup coordinator should publish a list of who is currently points eligible for the RP Cup after the last 4 tournaments of the RP Cup calendar. This is an important step for MGA members to view their standing which is not visible via Golf Genius due to exceptions. Some examples of exceptions are:
- Members who are points eligible but have left the club and choose not to play
- MGA Board members invoking their right to 1 exception per 3 year term
- Members who are points eligible but have confirmed they will not be playing in the RP Cup.
- The RP Cup coordinator is responsible for overseeing RP Cup participation, inviting members, and facilitating team selection.
- The RP Cup coordinator will send out an invitation following the last MGA event in October to all the participants and the first 10 alternates. All responses will need to be returned by a date determined by the RP Cup coordinator. A non-response at the cutoff date will forfeit the earned RP Cup position.
- The RP Cup coordinator is responsible for selection and decisions regarding expenses for the RP Cup excluding food and beverage. Expense levels are approved by the MGA board.

RP Cup Participation
-
- Participants
MGA members will be selected to play in the RP Cup by being in the top point standings. Exceptions to the top 54 are when a MGA board member invokes the right for an exception year.
In the case of a tie in RP Cup points for the last position, the following items, in order, will determine participation
- Highest number of MGA tournaments played
- Most RP Cup bonus points earned
- The most number of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes, in that order. Finishes for gross and net are equally weighted
- A 3 hole shoot off to be administered by the RP Cup coordinator. Hole 1, 2 and 18 will be played. Preferably with all members that are tied playing together. However, the tie could be broken by scorecards with the holes played separately. 3 hole ties will be broken by scores on 18, 2, then 1. Decision of the RP Cup coordinator is final.
All MGA events will award participation and bonus points. Unless otherwise stated, 100 points will be awarded for participation. Bonus points will be awarded to the top 3 winners in each flight for gross and net scores. Unless otherwise stated in the tournament description, 75 bonus points are awarded for 1st, 50 points for 2nd, and 25 points for 3rd.
-

MGA board members may play in 1 RP Cup for which they are not points eligible for each 3 year term served.
