Welcome to The Social hosted
by Marshall Golf Club
August 2nd – 3rd, 2024
Dear The Social Participants,
Welcome to MGC’s Premier Golf Tournament, The Social, “a tradition unlike any other”! On behalf of the MGC Board of Directors and Staff, we would like to thank you for participating this year. Although the weather did not cooperate on Championship Saturday last year, it was still a remarkably successful year! We saw the Calcutta pot nearly double from the previous year, with last year’s pot totaling over $32,000, we had The Social branded Adidas polos and coolers as tee gifts, a raffle board with chances to hit a hole in one for a new car, as well as other gifts, and we added in an award ceremony and supper Saturday night after the conclusion of the Scotch Twosome. All those events will happen again this year, and we are excited to announce the inclusion of Parimutuel Betting for the Horse Races. Please make sure to thank our staff for their hard work in making this event a success again this year!
If there is anything we can do to make your tournament experience even more enjoyable, please let us know and THANK YOU for playing!

Betting will begin Thursday night after Calcutta and continue Friday until the horse race begins at 4:30. Betting will need to be made with the Pro Shop Staff or in the Event Center. We will have squares available to purchase for the chance to win an assortment of prizes, including, a Scotty Cameron Putter, Callaway Raw Jaws Wedge, Titleist Players Boston Bag, Mattress Barn package, Pro Shop merchandise, Oil changes, car wash package, car detailing package, a new car, and more. The Social Rules of Play
USGA Rules Govern all play, except under the following local rules:
- The embedded ball rule is in effect through the green.
- Flower beds are considered ground under repair. Optional nearest point of relief not nearer the hole.
- Ground under repair is marked with white painted circles. Proceed to the nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole. Or use available drop areas if applicable.
Hole In One Insurance
Each person will receive a $660 of clubhouse credit for everyone to have one beverage in the case of a hole in one. If a hole in one occurs Friday, we will collect an additional $10 per team at Saturday check-in to cover Saturday’s matches. You and your partner will automatically be insured in the case of a second hole-in-one. If this occurs, your MGC account will be billed $10 per team. If no hole in one, this money is added to the Scotch Twosome final payouts in Pro Shop credit.
How handicaps are determined
Handicap Strokes are awarded on the lowest handicap holes and are based off the lowest handicap player in the foursome...for example, Team #1 has a 3 and 4 handicap player versus Team #2 with a 5 and 6 handicap player. The 3-handicap player plays to a 0 handicap, the 4-handicap player plays to a 1 handicap (and receives a stroke on the lowest handicap hole on the nine), the 5 plays to a 2 handicap and the 6 plays to a 3 handicap.
Match Play portion
Two Player Teams compete a series of head-to-head matches against each team in their respective flights. Flights were created according to team total handicap index. Each player receives 90% of their handicap index and plays to the handicap of the white tees. Team Net Better Ball matches...low ball of Team #1 versus low ball of Team #2. Hole by hole match play competition. All play will commence from the White Tees.
How points are earned
Points will be allocated in three ways for the result of the match. 2 points will be rewarded for winning your match. If the match ends all square/tied each team will earn 1 point. If you lose you earn 0 points. Points can be earned based on match play scoring. Placing in each flight will then be determined by the number of total points accumulated by each team over the five-nine-hole matches.
Teams accumulate points in the following manner:
-
- points awarded for winning a match 1 UP
- points awarded for winning a match 2 UP
- points awarded for winning a match 3 UP and so on…
