History of “Red Friday”

"Red Friday" typically refers to when Canadian Armed Forces members are encouraged to wear red as a symbol of support for deployed troops and veterans. This tradition originated from "Support Our Troops" initiatives, where wearing red on Fridays became a visible display of solidarity and gratitude for the sacrifices made by military personnel and their families. It's a way for civilians and military members alike to show their appreciation and recognition for the service and dedication of those in the armed forces.

About Algoma Veterans Association:

The Algoma Veterans Association supports Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District veterans and their families. Members of the AVA include active and retired Canadian Armed Forces personnel whose mission is to provide support to those who have served our country. Our group provides mentorship, education, a friendly ear and financial assistance to our members to support their ongoing transition to civilian life. The main focus of our cause is to get our members active and engaged with our community while combating the effects of PTSD and physical injuries experienced in active duty.  The Algoma Veterans Association has been providing support to veterans and their families in Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma district since its founding in 2017.
