2024 National Golf League Signup - Waterloo Region
The Golf Canada National Golf League (NGL) is a nationwide network of leagues that culminates in a provincial playoffs and a national championship contested at the RBC Open the following year.
The NGL is based on net Stableford* scoring (so players of all skill levels compete fairly) over 9 holes (so both 18 hole and 9 hole players can participate) on specified NGL Major dates. We designate 6 regular games at Rockway as our NGL Majors, but only your top 4 scores count towards the cumulative season total, so if you will miss one or two of these dates you can still participate. We have selected the second and forth Thursday of June, July and August as our NGL Major dates, specifically:
- June 13
- June 27
- July 11
- July 25
- August 15
- August 29
You are not limited to playing with the NGL players on these dates, you can play with others in the membership. You just have to hand in your scorecard after the round, and Golf Genius will work its magic to determine your net Stableford score for the front 9 holes. Each week, we create a leaderboard so you can see how everyone is doing!
We are guaranteed one spot at the Regional Playoffs for every 20 participants that we have, and each of them can select a partner from the other NGL participants for the Regional (and hopefully, National) Playoffs. There's lots more interesting stuff coming from Golf Canada on this ... stay tuned!
Eligibility
All Waterloo Chapter members who carry an official Golf Canada handicap are eligible to participate. Don't forget that you can purchase a discounted Golf Canada Membership through the LPGA Amateurs if you don't already have one!
The NGL Majors are scored on the Net Stableford scoring system, which may seem a bit strange at first because you want a higher score, not a lower one! It allocates your course playing handicap to each of the front 9 holes at Rockway, and then you receive:
- 4 points for a net eagle or better
- 3 points for a net birdie
- 2 points for a net par
- 1 point for a net bogie
- 0 points for a net double bogie or worse.
It sounds complicated, but the system does the work. We just sync up Golf Genius with Golf Canada the morning of each NGL Major to update everyone's handicap, it determines which holes you get "shots" on, then we just have to enter your gross score per hole, and it calculates what your net score is, how many points you get and then generates our leaderboard.
