Southern Hills Golf Club's Match Play Tournament

 

Dear Match Play Participants,

We hope this email finds you well and excited for the upcoming tournament! As the event approaches, we wanted to provide some important updates regarding the format and scoring system. We’ve adjusted a few things due to the number of teams participating. Each team will be guaranteed two rounds of match play. Your first two-round matches will be randomly generated by Golf Genius. In the first two rounds, you will accrue points, see below for an explanation.  After the completion of the first 2 rounds of qualifying 6 teams will be eliminated from competition, leaving the field at 16 teams. Golf Genius will then seed the remaining 16 teams in the following manner: The #1 seed will be the team who scored the most points, #2 the next highest, etc. until the 16 seed. Next the bracket will be play out 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, etc.

(Each team is guaranteed to participate in 2 matches)

Tournament Format:

  • Rounds 1 and 2 will be qualifying rounds.
  • The tournament will consist of multiple rounds, with the first two rounds utilizing a random drawing of matches.
  • Each match will feature two teams competing in a match-play scramble format.
  • The objective is to accrue points by winning holes and matches.

Scoring System:

  • Teams will accrue 1 point for every hole won and 0.5 points for each hole tied during the match.
  • In addition, if a team wins the match, they will earn 1 point. If the two teams split the match, each team will earn 0.5 points.
  • These points will be tallied at the end of each match to determine the overall standings.

Qualifying Rounds:

  • After the first two rounds, the top 16-point accruals will qualify for the Sweet 16 round.
  • Teams will be seeded based on the total points earned during the qualifying rounds.

Tee Boxes:

  • Men will tee off from the blue tee boxes. Seniors 60+ may tee off from the whites but must declare before the match begins. Ladies will tee off from the reds.

We believe that this format will add an extra layer of excitement and competitiveness to the tournament while ensuring fairness and equal opportunity for all participants.
