“Soul” Purpose
Unfortunately, I have been diagnosed with stage 4, terminal, lung cancer. It is the exact type of cancer (adenocarcinoma) that afflicted the late, great Jimmy Valvano. In his speech at the 1st Espy Awards, Jimmy profoundly stated that he and ESPN were starting the V Foundation for Cancer Research, and that "It may not save my (his) life, it may save my (his) children's lives. It may save someone you love." Similar for me, cancer research probably won't save my life either (terminal), but the advancements and breakthroughs have given me a much greater quality of life and with some longevity. Jimmy paid it forward to me and to millions of others. As such, I would like to do the same and raise funds to pay it forward to others as well. Besides my kids, my "soul” purpose legacy is to now support my hero, Jimmy V, and his cause. This will be achieved in part by throwing the Greater Good for Cancer Research fundraiser party and perhaps make it an annual event. Monies raised through donations will support cutting-edge research at prominent cancer centers nationwide to help fight cancer now and into the future with further breakthroughs. Will you join me by attending our fun, good-will event and potentially donating to the V Foundation for Cancer Research?
