Tournament Conditions

 

Tuesday 23rd July – Thursday 25th July 2024

 

 

1.         CONDITIONS OF PLAY

  • The Championship shall be played by Stroke Play over 72 holes in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by R & A Rules, The England Golf Hard Card and such Local Rules as shall be approved by the Championship Committee.
  • The winner of the Championship shall be the competitor who returns the lowest score for 72 holes. In the event of a tie for first place the Championship shall be decided by a "sudden death" play-off, which shall take place immediately over the 1st hole of the New Course and the 17th and 18th holes of the Old Course until a winner emerges. In the event of a tie for other places the count-out formula will be applied.
  • Entry will be limited to 120 competitors. The first 36 holes will be played over the New and Old Courses, competitors playing one round on each course. The 30 lowest scores and ties over these 36 holes will qualify for the final 36 holes to be played over the New Course in the morning and the Old Course in the afternoon of Thursday 25th July. The remaining competitors will be eliminated. 
  • Scratchings will not be accepted at any time unless confirmed in writing. 
  • The ball the player uses shall be named on the current List of Conforming Golf Balls, a copy of which will be available at the Tournament Office. Penalty for breach of condition: Disqualification.
  • It is the players responsibility to ensure his clubs are conforming to the Rules of Golf. Particular attention is drawn to the Rules relating to “Driving Clubs” as defined by R&A Rules Limited. Penalty for breach of condition: Disqualification.
  • The Competitor shall start at the time laid down by the Committee. Penalty for breach of condition: If the player arrives at his starting point, ready to play, within five minutes after his starting time, the penalty for failure to start on time is two strokes at the first hole. Otherwise, the penalty for breach of this Rule is disqualification.
  • The Championship will be under the charge of the Championship Committee to whom all disputes will be referred and whose decision shall be final.
  • Drugs - A competitor must not knowingly make use of any drug to enhance his performance. Any competitor infringing this condition or, if asked to do so, refusing to take a test may be disqualified. Attention is drawn to the list of proscribed drugs issued by Sport England.
  • During the stipulated round, a competitor may not use a motorised vehicle unless specifically authorised by the Committee. Penalty for breach of condition: Disqualification.
  • Pace of Play (Note 1 to Rule 5.6b). In the absence of mitigating circumstances, a group is liable to be timed if it is in excess of the time allowed and, in the case of 2nd or subsequent groups out of position. The time allowed will be determined by the Championship Committee and will be published and distributed to all competitors.
  • A competitor is not permitted to withdraw at any stage of the Championship except for emergency reasons or medical circumstances explained to and deemed acceptable by the Championship Committee.
  • The Committee reserves the right to disqualify any Competitor making a false statement on their Entry Form.

 

2.         QUALIFICATION

  • To be eligible entrants must be female at birth and of Amateur Status as defined by R & A Rules Limited, a declaration to that effect being in the Entry Form, be in possession of a Handicap Index NOT EXCEEDING 8.0 under the World Handicap System on the date that the Entry Form is certified by the Secretary of the entrant's Home Club, State Association or National Union, Federation or Association.

 

3.         ENTRIES

  • Entry can be made online at WaltonHeath.com/Tournaments on or before the stipulated closing date of Monday 1st July at 12noon. All entries will be acknowledged via email.
  • The Entry Fee is £120.00 which may be paid via the online entry system. In the event of a competitor having to scratch after the closing date and prior to Tuesday 16th July she shall receive 85% of her entry fee providing a player on the waiting list can be substituted. Players scratching after Tuesday 16th July will not be reimbursed their entry fee. 
  • The ballot will be performed on your handicap index as at the closing date and the conditions of entry require that no more than 2 (25%) of your 8 counting rounds are social (General Play) scores.
  • The starting field shall be limited to 120 players, 110 made by ballot and the Club reserving 10 spaces at their discretion. In the event of the competition being over subscribed, entries for the higher handicap index competitors will be decided by ballot, the exact handicap index at close of entry will determine your position on the reserve list.
  • All unsuccessful entrants will be informed without delay but may be given the opportunity to compete if scratchings subsequently occur. Entry Fees will not be charged to those who do not make the Draw.
  • All entries shall be subject to the approval of the Championship Committee.

 

4.         PRIZES

  • The winner shall receive a replica trophy and will be known as ‘The Walton Heath Trophy Winner 2024' for the Jill Thornhill Rose.
  • The Championship Trophy will be retained at Walton Heath Golf Club.
  • Vouchers will be given for the leading 5 places.

 

5.         MISCELLANEOUS

  • Competitors are required to register in the Renshaw Room in the Clubhouse, on arrival at Walton Heath Golf Club and certainly no later than 1 hour before their starting time.
  • Courtesy practice rounds will be permitted from 2pm seven days a week following the announcement of the Draw. There are no set days reserved for practice rounds. Reservations for practice times can be made by calling Reception on 01737 812060 - 8am – 4pm Monday - Friday. Please do not attempt to reserve practice times until after the draw has been published.
  • Professional caddies may be booked through the Caddie Master on 07920 813020 or 01737 812060
  • Pull trolleys are available to hire from the Professional Shop.
  • By entering the Walton Heath Trophy 2024 you give Walton Heath Golf Club (WHGC) and the Walton Heath Trophy (WHT) permission to take photographs of you. You will also grant WHGC and WHT full rights to use the images resulting from said photography in any publicity or promotions via its media outlets.
