Terms of the Competition

 

Play is governed by the 2023 Golf Canada Rules of Golf, the British Columbia Golf Local Rules and Terms of Competition and where applicable, the following Local Rules and Terms of Competition.

 

Unless otherwise noted, penalty for breach of a Term or Local Rule is the general penalty.

 

ALTERNATIVE TO STROKE AND DISTANCE - The modified local rule MLR E-5, providing an alternate to stroke and distance is NOT IN EFFECT for this tournament. Players must proceed under Rule 18.

 

FORMAT – 36 holes of gross stroke play with the Amateur and Junior flight playing for the Zone Amateur Championship, Senior flight playing for the Zone Senior and Zone Super Senior Championships. The low three players from the qualifiers for the Amateur and Junior will represent the Zone at their respective provincial championships. The low three of the Senior Championship will represent the Zone at the BC Senior/Super Senior championship in Revelstoke. The low three U17 players will represent the Zone at the BC U17 Championship in Sechelt. Ties for Zone teams are decided by matching cards. Subsequent to the Championship is qualifying for the BC Amateur at Ledgeview Golf Course, 8 thru 12 July (18 exemptions) and for Junior Boys who will still be 18 by 1 Aug, for the BC Junior at Gallagher's Canyon Golf Club, 1 thru 5 July (10 exemptions). The Zone 5 Men’s Executive Committee reserves 2 of the exemptions into the BC Amateur and 1 of the exemptions into the BC Junior Boys.

 

TEEING AREAS – all players attempting to qualify for the BC Amateur and BC Junior Boys will play from the GOLD tees at BOTH COURSES. The Senior Division and Bantam Flight not qualifying for the BC Junior will play from the BLACK tees at Cowichan G&CC and the BLUE tees at Uplands GC.

 

TIME OF STARTING – Players must start at the time set by the Committee. See penalty statement for Rule 5.3a and the Exceptions for Rule 5.3a

 

SCORE CARDS – your score card will be handed to another member of your group who will act as your Marker. Upon completion of your round, you will report to the Scoring Area and verbally confirm your hole by hole scores with your Marker which will be reconfirmed by the Scorer to you. Your score card will also have a Golf Genius ID printed on the top right corner of the score card which one of your group can use to keep mobile score thereby creating a “live” leaderboard.

 

PACE OF PLAY –Time par has been set for the competition and is 4 hrs and 20 minutes for this competition. The best way to maintain your pace of play is to play ready golf and keep up to the group ahead of you.

 

DISCONTINUANCE OF PLAY—Rule 5.7 is effect.

 

DESIGNATED PRACTICE AREAS – at both venues, the practice areas include the driving range, and the putting and chipping greens by the first tee. The practice pitching green between the 3rd and 7th fairways at Cowichan G&CC is not a practice area.

 

PRACTICE BETWEEN HOLES—Between the play of two holes during the Championship, a player must not; 1) Make any practice stroke on or near the putting green of the hole just completed or; 2) Test the surface of that putting green by rubbing the putting green or rolling a ball. This includes practice on the course prior to play. Penalty – General penalty.

 

RULES ISSUES DURING COMPETITIONA player who is uncertain of the right procedure while playing a hole may complete that hole with two balls without penalty in accordance with Rule 20.1c(3). This must be reported at scoring or before to a referee.

 

PLAYOFF – In the event of a tie for low gross in any flight, the tie will be decided in a hole by hole playoff commencing on Hole #1.

 

CLOSE OF COMPETITION—The competition is deemed to have closed when the trophy has been presented to the winner or in the absence of a prize ceremony when all scores have been approved by the Committee.
