Ann Heuer, WDCGA Past President from 1977-1978, began the Tournament of Champions in 1979 in honor of her father, Charles F. Lynch. Mr. Lynch, Ann’s first golf instructor, imparted his love of the game to her. She recalls that her father was a superb golfer. He regularly played in USGA Senior Amateur, and maintained a single digit handicap even as he grew older. The Charles F. Lynch Memorial Trophy permanently resides at Congressional Country Club, Ann’s member club.

Maggie Brady, WDCGA Past President from 2008 - 2009, assumed the sponsorship of the TOC trophy in 2019 when Ann Heuer moved to California.  The Charles F. Lynch Memorial Trophy will continue to reside at Congressional Country Club, Ann and Maggie's member club, in honor of all Congressional's women golfers who compete in WDCGA events.
