ENTRY ELIGIBILITY, PROCEDURE & INFORMATION

Entries will be accepted at the discretion of the Sunnehanna Senior Amateur Championship Committee, not based on entry number. Entries are open to male amateur golfers that meet the following requirements:

 

Mid Master Division:  Players who have reached their 40th birthday on or before the first round of competition.  Applicants must have a USGA handicap index of 3.0 or less.

 

Senior Division:  Players who have reached their 55th birthday on or before the first round of competition. Applicants must have a USGA handicap index of 6.0 or less. 

 

Super Senior Division:  Players who have reached their 65th birthday on or before the first round of competition. Applicants must have a USGA handicap index of 10.0 or less. 

 

 

EXEMPTIONS

All exempt players who meet the criteria outlined below are required to register before Saturday, June 15th at 6:00pm EST to ensure a spot in the field.

  1. Past Champions in each division for the previous five years;
  2. Top ten finishers (and ties) in the previous year’s Senior Division;
  3. Top ten finishers (and ties) in the previous year’s Super Senior Division;
  4. Top five finishers (and ties) in the previous year's Mid Master Division;
  5. Top 5 finishers (and ties) from the 2023 Pennsylvania Senior Am;
  6. Top 3 finishers (and ties) from the 2023 West Pennsylvania Senior Am;
  7. Past Champions in the previous five U.S. Senior Amateur Championships;
  8. Round of 16 qualifiers from the 2023 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship;
  9. Competitors making the field in the 2024 U.S. Senior Open;
  10. Sunnehanna Senior Tournament Committee Host Club Selections.

 

FORMAT & DIVISIONS

The Championship will be contested over 54 holes of Individual Stroke-Play with three divisions; Mid Master, Senior and Super Senior.

 

Note: If a particular division is not full by Wednesday, August 9th and there is a wait list in another division, spots in the field may be filled by those players on the wait list.  

 

Field Cut:  Provided that the starting field size exceeds 90 competitors, at the conclusion of 36 holes the field will be cut to the low 63 players and ties, with a pro-rated representation from each division. The pro-rated allocation of players making the cut from each division will be reflective of the number of players in each division, relative to the total field size. The determination of total field size, number of players in each division and pro-rated representation of players making the cut (before ties) will be announced in conjunction with pairings posted.

 

ON-SITE CHAMPIONSHIP REGISTRATION

All competitors must register on site prior to the start of the Championship. Players that do not register may be subject to DISQUALIFICATION. Official tournament registration will be held at Sunnehanna CC on Sunday August 18th from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.  Competitors who are unable to register on the date and time listed above must contact the Sunnehanna Tournament Committee in advance of the Championship.

 

OFFICIAL PRACTICE ROUND

Players are limited to one complementary practice round on the designated practice round date. All confirmed competitors should contact the Sunnehanna CC Golf Shop beginning TBD to schedule a practice round for Sunday, August 18th.

 

COCKTAIL RECEPTION

All competitors are invited to attend a cocktail reception on Sunday, August 18th; attendance is not required but HIGHLY recommended. The reception will begin at 6:30 and end around 8:30. Drinks and food will be available. Dress is, at a minimum, golf attire (shorts are permitted).

 

STARTING TIMES & PAIRINGS        

Starting times and pairings for the first and second rounds will be made available no later than Friday, August 16th at 5:00 PM.  Copies will also be distributed at registration.  Final round starting times and pairings will be available as soon as possible following the completion of 2nd round play.

Keep in mind, most hotel blocks expire one month out from the event or when inventory is gone, whichever comes first.

 

TRANSPORTATION & CADDIES

Players may walk or ride at their own discretion. Caddies are permitted but are not guaranteed a cart seat. Cart fees for the tournament are included in the entry fee. Carts are limited to two riders at a time, and a maximum of two carts per group.  There is a LIMITED number of caddies provided by the club.  Caddie fees are a suggested $80 per round.  Players are responsible for paying their caddie directly and should bring cash to complete payment.  Please contact the Sunnehanna CC Golf Shop at (814)-255-3106 to reserve a caddie.  Caddies are assigned on a first come first serve basis.

 

CLUBHOUSE FACILITIES

Clubhouse Facilities will be open daily at 7:00 AM. Player’s will be responsible for breakfast and lunch purchased on the practice round day. Lunch is provided for all three days of the Championship and are included with each competitor’s entry fee for the Championship. Guests may dine with players but will be charged the appropriate cost for the same meal. Acceptable forms of payment in the clubhouse will be distributed to players in advance of the Championship. All other food and beverage consumed will be at the competitor’s expense.

 

PRACTICE FACILITIES

Practice Facilities will be available to all competitors for the duration of the Championship. The practice facilities will open Sunday, August 18th at 7:00 AM and throughout each Championship round, beginning one hour prior to the first starting time.

  

WITHDRAWAL & NO SHOW POLICY           

If you find you cannot compete in the Championship, you must officially withdraw from the event by contacting Tournament Chairman, John Bearrie at (817) 233-1553 or email at doubleeagle.jlb3@gmail.com  If you do not officially withdraw, you may be subject to DISQUALIFICATION from future Sunnehanna Championships. Any player withdrawing prior to Monday, August 5th at 6:00pm EST will receive a full refund, less a $25 administrative fee. Any withdrawals after the August 5th deadline will not be entitled to receive a refund, unless a spot is filled by an alternate player on the wait list in the same division.
