AMBROSE RULES AND ADVICE

METHOD OF PLAY

1. Maximum of four players in each group. The lowest marker is the team captain of each group and should hit off last from each tee.

2. All players hit off from the tee, and the captain selects the best drive (longest, best position, etc.).

3. Other three players pick up their balls, then each places their ball within one club-length of the best-positioned ball, in the same conditions as the selected ball, e.g. Rough, bunker etc. (no nearer the hole) and play.

4. On a par four, it is presumed that at least one player will hit the green in two shots. Bearing this in mind, the following procedure is adopted.

5. The selected ball is usually the nearest to the pin but may be the most straightforward putt. The other three players pick up their balls and place them one-putters-head length from where the selected ball is marked.

6. Each group has one score for the hole.

7. As soon as a ball is holed, the other players pick it up and proceed to the next tee.

8. The preceding procedure applies to all holes – par 3" s, 4" s, 5" s.

9. The captains of all teams are responsible for the correct score being entered into the Golf Genius app after each hole and verifying scores after play.

Handicaps

Because we manage an event with many players who do not have established Playing Handicaps, we will use the Peoria Handicapping system. This handicapping system uses scores from 12 holes of the round being played and computes a Course Handicap for every team.

The benefit of Peoria Handicapping is that players will not know what holes will be used to compute the Playing Handicaps. So players will not be able to "blow up" on a hole to "blow up" their Playing Handicap.

How Peoria Playing Handicaps are Computed:

(Don't worry; the Golf Genius App automatically works out the handicaps and final results of the day. All you have to do is ensure the correct scores for each hole are entered)

Below are the steps on how Playing Handicaps are computed using the Peoria system:

First, take the difference between the team's scores and par values of all the holes selected to be used in the Peoria scoring (In other words, how many strokes over par the team was on the selected holes). The maximum score that a team can take on a hole is double par.

Divide 18 by the number of holes you selected to be used for Peoria Scoring.
Multiply the number computed in Step 1 with the number calculated in Step 2. Then round that number. The rounded number will be the team's Playing Handicap.
Make the Handicap Allowance adjustment (if necessary).

Example:

Team Black hops are playing in a round using the double Peoria system (12 holes for handicapping). On those twelve holes, The team was nine over par. Multiply 9 by 1.5 (18 holes/12holes used for scoring = 1.5). The teams full Playing Handicap is 13.5

The Double Peoria system uses 80% of the full Playing Handicap, so the team's adjusted Playing Handicap would be 10.8. If The teams 18 hole gross score were 80, then their net score would be 69.2

POINTS TO REMEMBER

- The lowest marker in each group is responsible for how the group plays their round of golf.

- Observing the etiquette and rules of golf.

- Repair divots and pitch marks.

- Rake the bunkers after you hit your shot

- Scoring accurately.

- Playing without undue delay.

- Don't leave buggies or bags at the front of greens.

- If safe to do so, at your discretion, call up the next group whenever possible.

- Study your line on the putting green while others are putting. You do not have to move about to do this, but you have to get to the position of your ball before the first player putts in.

- Leave the green immediately if the result of the hole has been determined and proceed to the next tee. Please don't fill in your score next to the green. Instead, do it at the next tee.

- If the tee is vacant, allow the shortest hitters to hit off first. Be honest about how far you can hit the ball.

- It is not intended for any player to rush their shot, but please proceed directly to your next shot at a reasonable pace.

- Don't stand behind other players and watch their shots before moving to the position of your ball.

- Your position in the field is directly behind the group in front, not in front of the group behind.

- If, for whatever reason, you lose your place in the field, please try to catch up as soon as possible.
