PLAYING READY GOLF HELPS FOR A PROMPT ROUND OF GOLF

 

IN GENERAL

  • HAVE FUN!

  • Hit when ready and safe.

  • Know your clubs and your abilities to select a club for distance and course conditions.

  • Keep an extra ball, a tee, and a ball marker on your person at all times.

  • Be respectful of other players at all times avoiding distractions and noise.

  • Hit a provisional ball if your ball might be out of bounds, lost outside of a red staked penalty area, or in a place that might be difficult to find outside of a red staked penalty area.

  • Be familiar with the RULES OF GOLF.

  • Know CommonGround’s course rules and the drop zones on #6  & #17. These are the only two holes that have a drop zone when playing from our league tees. 

  • Pick-up at maximum score (net double bogey) and place an X on next to the score
    Don’t be afraid to DQ (disqualify) from the game of the day if you’re having a bad day.

  • Mark your scores at the next tee box, not while sitting in your cart next to the green or while standing on the last green.

 

KEEP UP WITH THE GROUP IN FRONT OF YOU

  • Your correct position on the course is immediately behind the group in front of you, not immediately in front of the group behind you. 

  • If you are consistently not able to keep up and a gap opens in front of you, reassess what is holding you up and increase your pace. 

  • The person who is ready and won’t hit into the group ahead of you should tee off first.

  • Arrive at your next shot just before the group in front leaves the area in front of you.

  • Increase your pace if a gap between groups occurs.

  • If you have putted out, look ahead to the next hole, and go to the next tee box if it is open and ready for someone to hit . You may walk to the next tee box and tee off with another player in your group if others in your group are still putting out on the green.

 

PLAN YOUR SHOT BEFORE YOU REACH YOUR BALL

AIM TO PLAY IN LESS THAN 40 SECONDS   

  • From club selection - to pre-shot routine - to execution, strive to hit your shot in less than 40 seconds when it is your turn to play. Help keep play moving at a brisk pace.

  • Determine your yardage and make your club selection before it is your turn to hit.

  • If riding and you need to walk to your ball, take several clubs with you

  • If utilizing a GPS/Range finder do so early while another player is hitting.

  • If you remove your glove while playing, be ready for your next shot when you will use your glove by putting your glove back on before your reach your next ball.

  • Move on promptly to your next shot.

 

PRE-SHOT ROUTINE 

  • Pick your line of play once and trust yourself. 

  • Keep it short, try to take no more than one practice swing, then set up to the ball and play your shot. 

  • Most importantly, be ready to hit when it is your turn.

  • Be efficient after your shot, start moving toward your next shot promptly.

 

SHARING A CART, USE A BUDDY SYSTEM

  • Driving a cart should save time between shots, and between greens and tee boxes.

  • Don’t wait in the cart while your cart mate hits, walk to your ball (fairway or green) with some clubs in hand if your cart mate needs to be elsewhere for their shot.

  • Drop your cart mate off at her ball and drive to yours.

  • Be ready to play when it is your turn and then let your cart mate pick you up or drive to your ball after you drop your cart mate off and then pick them up after you hit. 

 

BE HELPFUL TO OTHERS IN YOUR GROUP

  • Follow the flight of all tee shots, not just your own especially off the tee box.

  • Think it may be a lost ball? Hit a provisional ball. 

  • Always communicate your intention (I’ll hit first, then help you look for your ball; I’ll putt while you are coming up to the green, etc.).

  • Once in the fairway, you can help others look for their ball if you already know the location of yours.

  • Help look for a lost ball but, not all 4 players need to look for one ball.

  • If your ball is visible and in a place before the other player’s lost ball, hit your ball first then go help in the search if needed.

  • Keep to 3-minute maximum ball search.

  • Volunteer to fix a divot, rake the bunker, attend the flagstick, etc. for another player if needed.

  • Be ready to attend the flagstick for others. 

  • Be still while another putts.

 

BE EFFICIENT ON THE PUTTING GREEN

  • Leave your clubs and cart on the side of the green closest to the next tee box.

  • Mark your ball and clean it when you arrive at the putting green.

  • Leave the green promptly after holing out.

  • Line up your putt while others are preparing to or are putting if you can do so without being distracting.

  • Leave the green after putting out and proceed to the next tee box.

  • Do not record your score at the green, wait until you’ve arrived at the next tee to record your score.
