HORSE RACE INFORMATION – OKANAGAN LADIES GC 2024

  1. Description

  • A horse race is a team alternate shot event where one team gets knocked out at the end of each hole. Ten teams tee off on hole #1, nine teams tee off hole #2, eight teams tee off hole #3, and so on until there are two teams remaining to play hole #9.

  • A horse race can be as much fun to watch as it is to play!!

  1. Procedures

  • Players & Teams: 20 golfers who are willing to play in the horse race are matched up (player 1 with 20, 2 with 19, so on down to 10 with 11) - thus making 10 teams. If fewer than 20 players are willing to play then we can play with fewer players and play fewer holes, but we hope most of you will be willing to participate.

  • Tees: Play will be from the Red tees.

  • Order of Play: Player A in each team will be the person who had the lowest score in the Club Championship round that day, and player B will be their partner. Players A will tee off on the odd holes and player B will tee off on the even holes. Furthermore, each team will be given a number from 1 – 10 through a random selection. Team #1 tees off first on hole #1 and then they will tee off last on the next hole; on hole #2, team #2 tees off first and then they will tee off last on the next hole, and so on. Of course, if a team gets knocked out that will be taken into account.

  • Ball: Each team will write their team # on their ball for identifying purpose. Each team should have a ball marker that is easily identified from other teams.

  • Organized Play: After everyone has teed off, players will proceed to their ball and the person running the horse race will signal your team when it is your turn to hit. Just before you hit, call out your team number to assist the people running the horse race.

  • Putting: We will continuously putt inside out (closest to the hole putts first) once everyone is on the green. Please call out your team # and your score once your team has holed out, so that the conveners can record your score and so that all teams can hear your score.

  • Eliminations: The team with the highest score at the end of a hole gets knocked out of the game.

  • Ties: If two or more teams have the same highest score at the end of a hole, then there will be a chip-off between these teams. The player on the team who did not putt out for the team will participate in the chip-off for the team and in the order in which they teed off on the hole. The conveners will select the chip-off location. The team that chips closest to the hole remains in the game while the team farthest away is knocked out. Those who are participating in the chip-off stand with their backs to the green until they are called to chip. The chip is measured by those running the horse race before the next person chips.

  • OB & Provisional Balls: If a player incurs a penalty (i.e., hits a ball OB) then their partner reloads and the penalty is added to the score. If the team decides that it requires a provisional ball, then the alternate team player hits the provisional ball. If that becomes the ball in play, then the alternate player would hit the next shot. However, if the original ball is found, then the player who did not hit that shot, would play the next shot.
