Welcome to the 2024 MGA Team Match Play

Format

  • 2 Man Team Match Play, consisting of three single elimination brackets of 16 teams each over four rounds.  We will have three overall champions.
  • 48 teams total, 96 players
  • Brackets and seeding within brackets will be determined by the team combined player index.  The first bracket will contain the 16 teams with the lowest combined indexes, the second bracket will be the 17th through the 32nd teams, and the 3rd bracket will contain the teams with the 16 highest combined team indexes.   Seeding within brackets will be sequential: one vs. two, three vs. four, five vs. six, etc., to minimize stroke differentials in early rounds.
  • If we do not reach a full field of 48 teams, byes will be randomly drawn.  If a team has a bye or wins by forfeit during the season, they will still earn full prize money.
  • Playing handicaps will be determined by courses and tees played, and strokes will be given off the player with the lowest handicap.  The USGA recommended allowance of 90% will apply to all handicaps.
  • The hole score will be the best net ball for each team.  If the best net balls are tied, the hole is tied.   All matches will be played until a winner is determined, starting with the first hole again if needed.
  • All match results must be reported as soon as the match is completed to pilot114@mac.com for posting to the website.   You must ask the pro shop to place one of your completed and signed scorecards in the MGA folder.
  • Players are expected to check the scorecards for correct handicaps and the application of the USGA allowance before the match begins.   Handicaps will be updated once a week on Saturdays.  Matches will stand as played when the scorecards are signed and submitted to the pro shop.

Scheduling:

  • Teams are responsible for contacting each other on a timely basis to ensure the match is played within the following round periods.   As a courtesy to your fellow members, your team is expected to be generally available to play.   Examples:
    • If you are still working, be prepared to play weekday rounds later in the afternoon.
    • If you have a summer home, do not sign up for team match play if you plan to be gone for long blocks of time during the event.
    • If you currently know you will be scheduled for a medical procedure with a long recovery time, do not sign up for team match play.
  • Each round must be completed by the end of the round date window as follows:
    • Round 1:  March 15 through April 25
    • Round 2:  April 26 through June 6
    • Round 3:  June 7 through July 18
    • Round 4:  Bracket Finals:  July 19 through August 31
  • Rounds may begin before the round date window if teams have been determined and they both agree to do so.
  • Teams are responsible for scheduling the match and notifying the pro shop in advance so that cards may be prepared.
  • If a match cannot be completed during the round period, the tournament committee will meet to review the facts and declare a winner.   The availability of teams will be a primary consideration, but other factors may also impact the decision.  A coin flip may determine the final result if the committee finds no overriding equity for either team.
  • Please use the member roster list from the "members" pulldown menu on the MGA Home page to find phone numbers and emails for scheduling purposes.
  • Please be sure to notify the pro shop that you are playing a match a couple of days prior so that they can print scorecards.
