ANDOVER.KS: It took one extra hole, but Andrew Goodman won the Trans-Miss Amateur Championship on his fourth and final try. Goodman started the day 7 shots back of the leader but posted the low round of the day, a 7 under (64), to pressure the leaders to keep pace. The leaderboard got crowded by the end of the front nine as third-round leader Cooper Schultz started to slip, and others made charges. Schultz ended up in a tie for 3rd with Quinnton Croker, both finishing at -11. In 5th place, Charles DeLong managed an even-par final round and a -10 total.
William Sides made a dramatic birdie on the 72nd hole to shoot -5 and send the tournament into its 4th consecutive playoff against Goodman at -14. The players headed back to the par 5 18th hole, where Goodman got up and down from the right side of the green for birdie and to win the championship. Sides second shot missed the green left into some very tall fescue rough and could not match Goodman’s birdie.
In the battle for low Mid-Amateur, Jack Barber topped the list -9 and tied for 8th overall. Parker Eden (-4) and Dereck Busby (+2) were the only other Mid-Ams to make the cut
Flint Hills National once again proved a wonderful test of golf, requiring players to be accurate off the tee and possess a strong iron game to play well over the 7200 yards par 71 courses. The Trans-Miss Amateur is the fourth event of the Elite Amateur Golf Series.
