ANDOVER,KS: Cooper Schultz, the Wichita native and Kansa State University player, has shown his prowess and local knowledge in the third round. Starting one shot back of the lead, his five-under-par (66) performance has catapulted him to the top of the leaderboard at minus fourteen. This impressive performance, marked by seven birdies and only two bogies, has given him a three-shot cushion heading into the fourth and final round on Friday.
Jay Mendell, of Lafayette, LA and playing for Louisiana State University, sits in second place with his three-under-par 68, totaling minus eleven for the tournament. He is only one shot ahead of Charles DeLong, of Allendale, MI and playing for Texas Tech University, who shot two-under-par 69 and is currently in third place at minus ten.
Three golfers, including William Sides who shot the low round of the day at seven-under-par 64, and are at nine-under-par 204 total. Tied with sides is Jack Barber, with a third round of four-under-par (67), and Kristoffer Kuvaas, who managed a one-under-par 70. Sides is from Tulsa, OK and plays for Southern Methodist University. Barber is a currently the Low Mid-Amateur played college golf at Stanford University and is from San Mateo, CA. Kuvass plays for the Pepperdine University and is from Houston, TX.
An additional six golfers are within six of the lead and will need a low round to catch the leaders. The players were treated with a more typical Kansas summer, with the wind picking up to 15 mph and temps in the upper 90's. Tomorrow the wind is forecast to pick up even more and higher temps, which is a change from the calm cool temps the players experienced the first few days at Flint Hills National Golf Club.
Play commences tomorrow with tee times at 8:00 AM off both the 1st and 10th tees.
