Last Tuesday’s Playday

Last Tuesday’s Playday was a bit crazy with the last minute discovery that Centerpoint was laying a large cable across the cart path preventing access to the Forest Course via the cart path during the outage. It was a shock to players already on the tee boxes and a scramble for the next ones being notified that they had to go back to the main clubhouse to unload clubs, drive to Forest and reload clubs onto the Forest carts.

Kudos to Jim Kurtzeborn and staff for communicating and finding a way to work it out so even though it was a dilemma for private carts and caused a free for all in the group pairings and tee-time order, we still had a Playday!

This was an unusual situation. We have had an unusual year with weather causing cancellations and repairs causing course changes. We all are being called upon to go- with- the- flow and have patience during challenges that are brought to us this year.

Hang in there everyone!

Tee-time starts won’t go on forever!

And even though summer is on full blast, it too shall pass.

We will get through it!

Summer H-E-A-T Tips.  It’s sizzling out there!

H is for Hydrate!

Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Don’t wait until you are thirsty. Try taking a drink after every hole.

E is for Electrolytes

Supplement your water intake with sports drinks containing electrolytes when you are sweating for several hours.

A is for Apply Sunscreen

Protect your skin by using sunscreen and re-apply every two hours.

T is for cooling Towel

Use a towel doused in cold water or a microfiber cooling towel to keep you refreshed.

Tuesday July 30 No KWGA Playday due to TJGT so Saturday Aug 3 NO LEGAL PLAY

Tuesday Aug 6 No KWGA Playday due to Pro Lady so Saturday Aug 10 NO LEGAL PLAY

If you are interested in being on (or off) the distribution list for playing on Saturday, email Kakie Palmer at kakiepalmer@gmail.com.

If you can’t play on Tuesday, Saturday Play is a great way to still get in a course credit.

In order to play "legal" so that your score counts towards Year End awards and to receive course credit, you did not participate in the previous Tuesday playday (which includes starting but then withdrawing). There will need to be two "legal" players in a division (18 or 9) to count as a KWGA official Saturday Playday. Otherwise, you can play just for fun.

Reply to Kakie’s email by midnight Thursday (this will allow Chris time to print the Golf Genius scorecards and record nonlegal players on the tee time sheet.

Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to play or you will need to invoke the 2 stroke penalty rule for late arrivals.

Millie Stewart

Millie Stewart, a KWGA member for many years, passed away Saturday June 29, 2024. She had been on hospice and recently broke both hips and her shoulder. No local service is planned. She is being cremated and the family will gather in Colorado next summer to celebrate her.

Pace of Play

Each player should recognize that their pace of play is likely to affect how long it will take other players to play their rounds, including both those in the player’s own group and those in following groups.

Playing at a better pace is not about hurrying up or rushing around the course. It is simply about being more efficient with your time, as well as everyone else’s.

Here are some tips:

Be helpful to others in your group.

Follow the flight of all tee shots, and once in the fairway, help others locate their ball if you already know the location of yours.

Save time by playing a provisional ball if you think your original ball might be lost or out of bounds. Always have extra balls in your pocket. Do not look for a lost ball more than the allotted 3 minutes.

Plan your shot before you get to your ball. Determine your yardage and make your club selection before it is your turn to play. Be ready to hit when it is your turn and start moving toward your next shot promptly.

Your pre-shot routine is important, but don’t let it be too long.

When sharing a cart, as much as possible, while your cartmate hits, walk to your ball with a few clubs and then let them pick you up. Or, drive to your ball after you drop your cartmate off and then pick her up after you hit.

When approaching a green, drive your golf cart to the side or rear of the green on the best direct path to the next tee. Do not leave the golf cart in front of the green where you will have to go back to get it.

Be efficient on the putting green.

Leave your clubs on the side of the green closest to where you will exit. Mark your ball when you arrive at the putting green. Line up your putt while others are putting. Be ready for your turn to play. Be ready to attend the flagstick for others. Leave the green promptly after holing out.

Keep up with the group in front of you.

Your correct position on the course is immediately behind the group in front of you. Arrive at your next shot just before the group in front leaves the area in front of you.

THE CLUBS OF KINGWOOD Rules and Regulations ARTICLE IV. Section 12. Slow Play.

Each player should do their part to make a round of golf at the Club a pleasant experience for everyone and slow play hinders that enjoyment.
