The Board of Directors would like to provide you with their personal thanks for joining and look forward to your participation in several, if not all, of our scheduled events. The SATEGA GOLF Portal has all of the information you need to understand who we are, what we do and how you fit into the league.
The following will provide you with the basic information you will need to sign up and participate in our events. Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with this info and remember, SATEGA GOLF means Fun, Fellowship and Integrity.
Signing Up for an Event
This year's Schedule lists 20+ rounds. Most of them are held on Saturdays with an 8:00am shotgun start. Rounds are normally opened for sign up 4 weeks in advance. An email invitation is automatically sent once the round is opened. You can sign up using the link in the email or you can log into the SATEGA GOLF Member Portal and sign up there.
You can sign up to play by adding yourself as a single player or as part of a twosome, threesome or foursome with other members that have not yet signed up. Note that the foursome pairing is not guaranteed but we'll always do our best to accommodate. The Tournament Director will pair you with other players as needed. You can also sign up a Guest to play. We ask that if the same Guest plays more than 2 rounds, they should join the League. A foursome can have no more than 2 guests.
In addition to the discounted green fees paid to the course, there is a $5 fee for playing in the event which will be collected on Tournament Day. There are also 3 games members can participate in: Closest to the Pin, Gross Skins and Net Skins. Each of these games costs an additional $5 to play and a percentage of the monies collected for each game will be disbursed back to the winners. Who doesn't like winning $20-$40 for a Closest to the Pin? You will be automatically signed up to play these games when you join but can be removed if you prefer. Most of our members play all of them.
Sign up will close by noon on the Thursday before the round. You can always contact the Tournament Director to sign up after the online access closes but there is no guarantee that we will be able to get you in to play. It's up to the golf course to allow us to add on players after the sign-up. Normally that's not a problem. Our goal is to get as many people as possible to play.
If you need to cancel after the sign-up closes, you cannot do that from the Portal. You will need to contact the Tournament Director to remove you from the round. Please Text or Call the Tournament Director if you are unable to play, even up to check-in time for the round.
NOTE: All players including guests will be responsible to pay their green fees if they are a "No Show" for the round and the course charges us for your fees.
Tournament Day Activities
Now that you've signed up to play, here's what you can expect. Check in normally starts at 6:45am for an 8:00am round. You are expected to check in with the Tournament Director no later than 7:30am (usually 30 minutes before the start time). Please make sure you get to the course early so we can complete the check in by 7:30am. The Round Managers would like to get in a little warm up too!
All SATEGA GOLF tournament fees are to be paid at check in. Credit cards are currently not accepted. Cash and personal checks are OK. Please bring exact change for your fees.
Once you've checked in, please pay your green fees with the golf course and then you can get in some practice prior to the start of the round. Range balls are normally included. Please be in your cart ready to go by 7:45am (or 15 minutes prior to the start time). Once the group is assembled, the Tournament Director or other Board member will provide any special announcements and guidelines for the round then send everyone out to their tee boxes.
Pace of Play
Please try to keep up with the group ahead of you. Although Fun is part of our motto, slow play is not. If you lose a golf ball, please take NO MORE THAN 2 minutes to look for it. Make sure you help out the other players in your group by keeping an eye open for where everyone's golf ball goes to decrease the time to find it. If you think your ball is lost, announce to the group and play a provisional ball so you don't have to go back to the tee box when (or if) you don't find your ball.
Playing Rules
SATEGA GOLF follows all of the USGA Rules of Golf with 4 minor exceptions:
(1) There is a 2-minute time limit (not 3 minutes) to look for a lost ball
(2) Double-Par is the maximum score per hole
(3) Playing from the rocks - If your ball is not in a penalty area (hazard) but is resting on mostly loose or embedded rocks, the player is allowed to consider the rocks as "ground under repair." Move your ball to the closest point of relief, no closer to the hole and play it from there without penalty. PLEASE verify and gain approval from your playing partners BEFORE you move your ball.
(4) Gunch (Natural Area) Played as a Lateral Hazard - If your ball goes into the gunch and is not in an Out-of-Bounds area, the player must drop another ball at the point where the ball entered the gunch. The player will take a 1-stroke penalty and proceed with playing the remainder of the hole.
Scorecards
Everyone will have an individual scorecard or team scorecard on their carts. Please write your score legibly for each hole. Scorecards must be signed by ALL OF THE PLAYERS in your foursome to validate and attest to the scores. Invalid scorecards will result in disqualification and forfeiture of any round winnings. Turn in your signed scorecards to the Tournament Director after you have completed your final hole and before you head out to the parking lot to unload your cart.
Handicap
You will be scored using the Callaway scoring system until you have an established handicap (3 rounds). Once your handicap is established, you can track your progress on the Portal. All members will have an official GHIN Handicap Index, courtesy of the Texas Golf Association.
Inclement Weather
If the round is going to be impacted by inclement weather, the Board of Directors will meet either prior to the date or early that morning to assess the situation and determine whether or not to cancel. If the round is cancelled, the Tournament Director will send out and email to the group. Please ensure to check your email for updated status.
Scores and Winnings
Your scores and winnings will be posted to the Portal as soon as the data is entered into the GolfGenius system. Pay out of the winnings will be placed in separate envelopes for each member and will be given to you at the next round you play during the check-in process.
We want to thank you for joining and look forward to playing and competing alongside you in this year's tournaments. We're glad you're here. Let's have fun!
