WOMEN’S SILVER AND BRONZE MEDALS

 

Please note that the Terms of Competition below must be read in conjunction with the General Regulations for Golf Ireland Competitions available online and in print in the GOLF IRELAND HANDBOOK.

 

a)  Age

No Restriction

b)  Gender

Women

c)  Handicap Eligibility

Silver Medal – Handicap Index up to and including 20.0

Bronze Medal – Handicap Index of 20.1 and higher

e)  Qualifying

Club - The club winner is the player who returns the lowest aggregate of three net scores in both the Silver and Bronze categories from 1st April to 31st July. 

 

For the Silver Medal all three scores must be returned whilst the player has a Handicap Index of 20.0 or under,

For the Bronze Medal, all three scores must be returned whilst the player has a Handicap Index of 20.1 or above.

The winning of a Silver Medal supersedes the winning of a Bronze Medal in any club in the same year.

 

Regional – The club Silver and Bronze medal winners are eligible to play in their respective Regional Final.  In the event of a player winning the medal at both her home and away club, the player will represent her home club at the Regional final and her away club may be represented by the runner-up.

 

National -The players with the best net scores in each category (Silver and Bronze) of the Regional Final will qualify to play in the National Medal Final as per the following allocation:

Connacht 10 places; Leinster 30 places; Munster 20 places, Ulster – 20 places.  Substitutes, in score order are permitted.

 

f)  Form of Play

Club – The club must hold a minimum of three 18-hole stroke play acceptable score competitions designated as a Golf Ireland Medal Competition, which may be played in conjunction with another club stroke play competition.

If the Main Day is cancelled and cannot be re-arranged, the player in each category with the best net score on the Alternate Day/s, is the winner of that Medal Competition. Similarly, if the Alternate Day/s is cancelled, the Main Day results stand.

 

Regional & National – An 18-hole stroke play competition will be played.  Players will play off current Handicap Index in the category in which they qualified.

The maximum score form of Stroke Play is permitted at Club, Regional and National level.

g)  Ties

Club - If two or more competitors tie, the winner shall be decided on the Net Score of the last 9, 6, 3 or 1 hole(s) of all three cards added together. If still a tie playoff in accordance with Section E of the General Regulations.

FAQ

Q. Does a Silver & Bronze medal competition have to be played every month?

No, this is not a requirement, but it is a good idea.  A club should arrange or assign at least 3 Golf Ireland medal competitions between 1st April and 31st July in the competition year concerned. 

For example, one competition could be played in June and two in July or one competition in April, one in May, one in June and one in July etc. as the Club sees fit.

 

Q. Can a Golf Ireland medal qualifier also be assigned to another club competition?

Yes, for example a round of the Captain’s Prize / President Prize etc. could be assigned as a Golf

Ireland medal qualifier provided the competition format is an 18-hole stroke play acceptable score competition.

 

Q. What happens if a player’s handicap index reduces from say 21 to 19 after she has played in 2 medal

qualifier events?

A minimum of three counting scores must be within either the Silver or the Bronze handicap index

range to count.

 

Q. Can a club run more than 3 medal qualifiers?

Yes, a Club can run as many 18-hole stroke play acceptable score competitions designated as Golf

Ireland Medal qualifiers as they wish.

 

Q. Does  Club have to enter the Silver and Bronze medal competition?

Each club must register for the Silver and Bronze medal competition in advance.  Clubs will be notified by email with regard to online entry.

Entry for Silver and Bronze medals, Australian Spoons and the R&A 9 Hole competition will open alongside the Inter-Club competition entries.

 

Q. How / when does a club receive the Silver and Bronze medals?

Each registered club will be sent One Silver and One Bronze medal by Golf Ireland around August of year concerned.  Clubs should award medal to their winners at an occasion they see fit.

 

Q. Does the Club medal winner qualify for the Regional Medal Final?

Yes, both the winner (or substitute in score order) of the club Silver and Bronze medal qualify for the Regional final (see fixture list for predetermined date and venue of Regional finals) and reserve in order in winner not available

 

Q. How does a Club identify their winners of the Silver and Bronze medal?

Clubs identify winners from a report which is set up within their own Competition Software

programme.
