Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club – Additional Local Rules

(To be read in conjunction with the GA and JNJG Local Rules and Condition of Competition Sheet and the Rules of Golf as adopted by the R&A)

Any Local Rules displayed on the clubs’ local rules board or as printed on the clubs scorecard are to be disregarded for this event.

1. Out of Bounds (Rule 18.2)

  • White stakes and / or fence posts.
  • A ball coming to rest beyond the fence at the rear of the 5th hole is out of bounds, even if it comes to rest on another part of the course that is in bounds for other holes.

2. No Play Zones (NPZ). (White Stake, Dark Green Top) - Free relief MUST be taken (Rule 16.1f)

  • Young trees and shrubs marked with a NPZ stake (including any protective guards).
  • NPZ staked garden beds (interference occurs also if the swing touches anything growing in the NPZ).

3. Penalty Areas (Rule 17)

  • If penalty area markings (red or yellow) are not present, the penalty area is defined by the weed spray strip, or by red or yellow star pickets.
  • Dropping Zones 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 10th, 12th, 16th, 17th, 18th Holes:  When it is known or virtually certain that a ball lies in the penalty area and last crossed the edge of the penalty area between the red pegs with blue tops, the player has the following additional relief option for one penalty stroke - drop in the nearest dropping zone identified by a blue stake (or permanent drop zone marker at the start of the 14th fairway).  The relief area is 2 club-lengths in any direction from the stake/plate.

4. Abnormal Course Conditions and Immovable Obstructions (Rule 16)

  • Stakes defining GUR or penalty areas are immovable. For a ball in a penalty area, relief is available for interference with a penalty area stake under Model Local Rule F-24. (***see below***)
  • All roads, paths and tracks on the course, even if not artificially surfaces, are immovable obstructions from which free relief may be taken.

5. Ball Deflected by Bird Scarer, Power Line or Tower

  • If it is known or virtually certain that a player's ball hit a bird scarer, power line or tower or supporting pole or wire during play of any hole, the stroke is cancelled and does not count.  The player must play a ball without penalty from where the previous stroke was made – per Rule 14.6.
