Mattapoisett, MA -  Local women’s amateur standout Tara Joy-Connelly fired another red number, posting a one-under 70 today in the second round of the AGA Women’s Amateur Championship to stand at minus three for the tournament and extending her lead to ten shots.  Past national champions Kathy Hartwiger and Ellen Port sit at 149 (plus seven) for the tournament. Lara Tennant and Therese Quinn are another three shots back. Joy-Connelly is in the golf business and spent time at The Bay in membership sales.

In the Championship Division, things are a bit tighter, with Kelsey Chugg and Julia Potter-Bobb leading the pack at one over 143. Close behind is the three-time champion of this event, Laura Greenlief, at 144, while Jackie Rogowicz and Amanda Jacobs are within striking distance at 145 and 146, respectively.

The sun was out while the temperatures increased. The steady breeze kept things cool and caused some issues with players judging distances, mainly into the greens. All of the players are raving about the course conditions and the support of the club’s membership by volunteering for scoring and other duties.

Final round play commences tomorrow, with tee times starting at 8:00 A.M.
