In June 2024, the PGA of New Zealand committed to a multi-year partnership with Golf Genius that shaped how professional golf in the country is delivered, taught and measured. Two years on, the numbers show how deeply that decision has shaped the game:
The agreement PGANZ announced with Golf Genius in June 2024 focused on two investments, each designed to give members direct value.
The first was competition. Golf Genius Tournament Management became the engine behind the association's full events calendar, including trainee tournaments, Pro-Ams, qualifying schools and scrambles. Every player, at every stage of their professional journey, now receives the same standard of tournament experience.
The second was coaching. Every PGANZ member was given exclusive access to CoachNow, the coaching platform used by coaches, academies and national programmes in more than 60 sports across 140 countries. Golf Genius has supported the rollout directly, delivering coach education and seminars at PGANZ trainee days and CPD events.
"As an association, our responsibility is to provide real value to our members," said Peter Witton, National Tournaments Coordinator at PGANZ. "Golf Genius gives us best-in-class tools that support both tournament delivery and modern coaching — two critical areas for increasing player participation."
With the agreement, PGANZ joined a growing group of national PGAs that rely on Golf Genius for core parts of their digital infrastructure. That group includes the PGAs of America, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Holland, Japan and Portugal.
The scale of the tournament operation is the clearest measure of how far the platform has become embedded. Across 205 events at 145 venues, more than 11,000 rounds have been played and over 200,000 holes scored.

Every one of those scores was captured digitally. Each was logged, verified and pushed to live leaderboards, replacing paper cards and manual tallying. This gives players real-time standings wherever they are on the course and provides PGANZ with a complete, reliable record of professional competition in New Zealand, built one hole at a time.
The Golf Genius Digital Playbook — Connecting the Golf Ecosystem makes the case that connected championships go well beyond efficient operations and strengthen player aspiration, visibility and participation. The PGANZ partnership bears this out in two practical ways:
Increased Commercial value — The digital capabilities and real estate PGANZ now has is helping them deliver increased value for existing sponsors and expand its digital assets for future investment.
Data and insight — Two years of verified playing and coaching data now inform strategic decisions across all areas of its organisation.
What does Tournament Management actually feel like for the players using it?
Around 16% of PGANZ members now use CoachNow actively in their coaching and lesson delivery.
PGANZ backed the platform first as an immediate benefit for its members but by standardising the tools its professionals coach with, PGANZ has also extended its influence into the amateur game through:
By building platform access into its professional membership offer, coaching has become connective infrastructure rather than a standalone tool, and every lesson a PGANZ professional delivers through CoachNow strengthens the link between the association, its members and the players they teach.
Taken together, the two pillars of this partnership form a connected infrastructure that creates visibility for the PGA of New Zealand: who is playing, where, how often and how well. Instead of separate systems for separate jobs, the PGANZ is building one digital foundation that serves members, players, sponsors and its own organisation together.
It has become the standard for how professional golf in New Zealand is professionally played and coached.
For national associations weighing their own digital future, the lesson from New Zealand is that this value grows over time. Each event scored and each lesson delivered adds to a clearer view of the game, and a stronger case to members, sponsors and partners.
